As the park identifies extra-budgetary needs, Friends endeavors to meet those needs with money you donate. Historically the park prioritized training interns in its various departments. COVID interrupted that program for a few years, but interns are again the focus of our attention; and, thanks to your contributions, we provide stipends and housing support for several interns each year. Total funding thus far: $42,600
At other times we have:
- Purchased a microscope ($3,500) and a 3D scanner($23,000) for the Demonstration Lab Museum;
- Purchased a camera ($1,662) for the Interpretation Department;
- Provided hot, holiday lunches for staff working on Thanksgiving ($190);
- Underwritten purchase of Fred Harvey-era display items for Painted Desert Inn ($250);
- Paid the park’s Chamber of Commerce membership fee ($950);
- Provided lunch for participants in Public Lands Day activities;
- Paid for interpretive signboards along the park highway ($600);
- Provided interest-free loans to staff laid off during the 2018-2019 government shutdown ($2,000).
